Casting Bronze

STEP 4: Making the Mold

The details of the clay sculpture are captured by applying a silicon rubber mold to the separate clay sections. This rubber mold is applied in two hemispheres. A plaster mold is then applied to encase the flexible rubber and hold it in place. This step protects the soft rubber from allowing distortion. The final mold is called the Mother Mold and allows for limited duplication of the original clay sculpture.
