Casting Bronze

STEP 9: Burning out the Wax

When fully dried, the ceramic shell with wax inside is placed in a burnout oven heated to over 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The wax is melted out in this manner; hence the term “lost wax.” There is now a hollow cavity left behind within the glowing red ceramic shell, ready for the molten bronze to be poured inside.
